    Maya: The Birth of a Superhero

    This VR film-game hybrid has been on an amazing journey, receiving attention from the juries at Tribeca and SXSW, exhibiting at CPX:DOC and London’s V&A Museum, and taking part in the inaugural immersive competition at Cannes 2024.

    I was the lead Technical Sound Designer which saw me handle both Unreal Engine/FMOD implementation and the key audio motif creation, pushing the interactive storytelling through sound.

    Helioscope

    Helioscope is a unique interactive artwork bringing together the music of Vessels and the creative talents of Studio Murmur. In this four part cinematic adventure, players move through a darkened world as a beam of light, bringing colour and motion to its inhabitants and remixing tracks from Vessel's second LP. Composed of 250 audio-visual layers and 50,000 lines of code, the piece combines 3D interactive techniques more commonly found in video games, with live action and stopframe animation.

    I co-directed the piece with Ian Pons Jewell, and was the sole developer, creating the interactive experience with ActionScript and some innovative techniques for live video compositing within Flash.

    The Departure Lounge

    The Departure Lounge combines VR and MR technologies to deliver a futuristic experience exploring climate change’s impact on our immediate environment. A collaboration between XR professionals and the University of the Arts London, it’s an event in two sequential parts.

    I am a producer and the lead sound designer for this exciting in-development Unity project, which has a fantastic team of European talent attached.

    This VR flying simulator, as part of an immersive visitor centre experience, used Oculus Rift and a real-time motion-based simulator to make users feel like they were flying over Kazakh mountains.

    I created the music and sound design for the experience, which proved to be a big hit with the crowds.

    I developed this free online dev tool, which enables designers to visualize their narrative sound ideas. Centring around sound worlds as a way to draw out and develop narrative themes, the tool allows for the creation of animated timelines to explore story shapes and make charts that compare contrasting aesthetics.

    The tool's documentation lays out some basic creative approaches, while the underlying concepts are explored more deeply in the 'Symbol' and 'Shape' chapters of my sound design book.
